Meet Sally Jane Heit

Sally Jane Heit grew up in Brooklyn, where attempts to rival attention among her seven siblings stirred her natural abilities as a performer – singing, dancing, and acting.  After raising three daughters in Washington, DC, she moved to New York and was cast in Michael Bennett’s musical, Ballroom, on Broadway. Her impressive list of professional credits includes film, television, theatre, and cabaret.

After an inspired encounter with Lily Tomlin, Sally-Jane wrote and starred in Starting In The Middle, the saga of Harriet Ferment, a composite character based on her own experiences as a woman, mother, and professional caught between changing times… audiences around the world recognized themselves in the hilarious, sad and sometimes neurotic portrait, peppered with alter-egos.

Her latest production, Before I Forget… A Musical Memoir, blends comedy and song into a poignant portrayal of real life that leaves audiences enlightened and smiling. Songs familiar and original help to tell the story as her life’s journey unfolds in a musical and theatrical evening.  Sally-Jane describes, “If you have a mother, a daughter, a son, an ex, a sister a brother...wait a minute...if you are in a family...don't call 911, come to see the show...you will realize you are not alone.”

Reviews from a recent preview performance:
“The show is astonishing.  Its messages are simple yet as complex and layered as you want them to be.”
“In hearing her beautiful songs and funny, poignant stories, the words that come to mind are ‘comfortably raw’.
The themes from Sally-Jane’s life will resonate with everyone."

Sally Jane is performing Before I Forget as a benefit for community organizations around the country with return engagements in Sanibel, FL and Great Barrington, MA, as well as a premiere of the show at Arena Stage in Washington, DC.  “It is just time to give back.  I have a gift.  I didn’t buy it - I nurtured it.  That gift makes people laugh.  Instead of another buy out or sub prime whatever (What does that mean exactly?  A leak in the basement?)  Life is short. Let’s get to it.”
